Boy at Heart

from Our Stories by Twilight Fields

/

about

Lyrics and music by Dave Janveau. Performed by Allister Thompson.

lyrics

The boy set out that day
For at his home he couldn’t stay
To the road the open sky
Waiting for something to pass him by

Men he met in those days
Searching too in their own ways
Like the wind he floated on
Through the land from dusk till dawn

He went
Over rocks and through the trees
Like a bird pushed by a breeze
Many years a sailor now
Where he’s bound he cannot see

All in time he found his bride
Who remained forever by his side
A child was born one August morn
His heart was glad but his mind was torn

Gone the days of freedom known
The seeds of toil had all been sown
A car was bought as well a home
But all the while he longed to roam

Over rocks and through the trees
Like a bird pushed by a breeze
Many years a sailor now
Tossed and turned on raging seas

Then one night the moon in sight
He packed his bags and he took flight
To the road that led him there
A younger man without a care

But that road was not the same
As the one when he first came
So he turned his car around
For now he knew where he was bound

Over rocks and through the trees
Like a bird pushed by a breeze
Many years a sailor now
He was the man he longed to be
